A Nobu Hotel would be a perfect fit for San Jose

Nobu Matsuhisa is a critically acclaimed celebrity sushi chef and restauranteur who has over 25 restaurants all over the US and the world. Recently, he along with business partners which include Robert De Niro, have begun to build hotels in New York, Dubai, and soon one will take up a tower at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Because of Japantown and the large Japanese population in San Jose, along with the numerous San Jose companies that deal directly with Japanese companies, a Nobu Hotel would fit well into the fabric of the city. This type of high end hotel could be great drawing point for Japaneses business travelers who frequent San Jose on a weekly business. The location could be an issue of contention, but a perfect fit seems to be forming.

Casino M8trix has plans for a large hotel on its property to be built in a few years as a second phase to the project, and the W Hotel has been thrown out there, but why not a Nobu Hotel? It would compliment the new upscale casino and would be a draw for “whales,” a term used to describe high rollers. Unfortunately Casino M8trix is not close in proximity to Japantown, but a large hotel project like this may not necessarily fit into the aesthetic of Japantown anyways. Either way, a Nobu Hotel would be a great addition to San Jose, giving us a little star power in the hotel community.
